Improve your mood…redesign your kitchen in 5 minutes

Mary Ann Chiampa

I move – a lot! My friends once made a list of the places I lived and came up with 25 locations and I’ve move twice since then.

I love design and over the years I have decorated to fit the space.  One of my favorite homes was a cottage on Cape Cod. The living space had an open design with cathedral ceilings, skylights and wide pine floors. The features I liked best were the wood ceilings and ceiling beams.  My design style for this space was ‘country contemporary’. A term I thought I made up over ten years ago but recently saw it mentioned in a design article.

One of the great things about Cape Cod is the availability of antique shops and yard sales.  I came across a number of flat cheese graters that ended up as wall decorations. Other items that can be used are antique egg beaters and my favorite was a scale that was hung from the ceiling over the sink. One unique find was a pair of glove stretchers.

Since that time I have moved to more of a contemporary style and now in my newest space I am going with a cottage look. I think the cheese graters would make a great backsplash in my new kitchen.
